EYFS at St Patrick's Catholic Primary School

At St Patrick's Catholic Primary School, we believe that every child is a unique gift from God, created with limitless potential. Our Early Years Foundation Stage provides a nurturing, stimulating and ambitious environment where children feel safe, valued and inspired to learn. Rooted in our Catholic ethos and Gospel values, we foster curiosity, independence, resilience and a love of learning from the very beginning of each child's educational journey.

Our EYFS curriculum is designed to provide children with the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to thrive. Through a carefully planned blend of adult-led teaching, purposeful play and high-quality interactions, children develop across all seven areas of learning whilst building the confidence, communication skills and positive attitudes that prepare them for lifelong learning. The curriculum reflects children's starting points, interests and needs, ensuring that every child can flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

Intent

At St Patrick's, our intention is to provide a broad, balanced and ambitious Early Years curriculum that enables every child to achieve their God-given potential. We aim to develop confident, independent and enthusiastic learners who are equipped with the knowledge, vocabulary and skills needed for future success.

Our curriculum is designed to:

Place children's personal, social and emotional development at the heart of learning.
Develop strong communication and language skills through rich conversations, storytelling and purposeful interactions.
Foster a love of reading through high-quality texts, systematic synthetic phonics and meaningful literacy experiences.
Build secure mathematical understanding through practical exploration, reasoning and problem-solving.
Encourage curiosity, creativity and critical thinking through exploration and enquiry.
Promote children's physical development, wellbeing and healthy lifestyles.
Develop the Characteristics of Effective Learning, enabling children to play and explore, think critically and become active, motivated learners.
Ensure children are ready for the next stage of education and life in modern Britain whilst remaining rooted in our Catholic values and sense of community.

Implementation

Our EYFS curriculum is delivered through a carefully sequenced programme of learning that combines high-quality direct teaching with expertly planned continuous provision. Learning experiences are designed to be meaningful, engaging and responsive to children's interests whilst ensuring progression across all areas of the EYFS Framework.

Impact

The impact of our EYFS curriculum is seen in children who are happy, confident and engaged learners. Children make strong progress from their individual starting points because they are immersed in an environment where learning is purposeful, aspirations are high and achievement is celebrated.

Children leave the Early Years as capable, confident individuals, equipped with the knowledge, skills and values needed to flourish within our school community and beyond.
