    • Young Carers

    At St. Patrick's Catholic Primary School, we recognise that some children take on additional responsibilities at home by helping to care for a family member. These children are known as Young Carers.

    A young carer may help to support someone who has:

    • A disability
    • A long-term illness
    • Mental health difficulties
    • Problems related to drug or alcohol misuse

    The person they care for may be a parent, sibling, grandparent or another member of the household.

    Being a young carer can sometimes impact a child's emotional wellbeing, friendships, attendance or learning. We are committed to ensuring that young carers receive the understanding, encouragement and support they need to thrive both at home and at school.

    How We Can Help

    If your child is a young carer, please let us know. We can work closely with families and external agencies to provide additional support where needed.

    At St. Patrick's, we can offer:

    • Pastoral support and a listening ear
    • Access to clubs and enrichment opportunities
    • Emotional wellbeing support
    • Support with attendance and learning
    • Signposting to specialist services
    • Liaison with external agencies and support networks

    Telford & Wrekin Young Carers Service

    We work alongside the Telford & Wrekin Young Carers Service Telford and Wrekin Young Carers, which provides valuable support for young carers and their families.

    The service offers:

    • One-to-one support for those who need it most
    • Term-time youth clubs
    • Holiday and half-term activities, trips and events
    • School drop-in sessions
    • Individual befriending support
    • Information and advice for the whole family
    • Regular newsletters with news, events and helpful advice
