Online Safety
Online Safety is about understanding the potential risks and dangers associated with using the internet and digital technology. This includes accessing the internet through computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, gaming consoles and other connected devices, as well as the use of social media, online communication, apps and wireless technology.
Technology plays an important role in children's lives and provides many exciting opportunities for learning, communication and entertainment. However, it is essential that both children and adults understand how to use technology safely, responsibly and respectfully.
At St. Patrick's Catholic Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that our pupils develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to navigate the online world safely. Through our Computing curriculum, RHSE curriculum, Project Evolve lessons, assemblies and regular online safety activities, children learn how to make informed choices and protect themselves online.
We encourage our pupils to:
- Use the internet safely and responsibly.
- Think carefully before sharing information online.
- Respect others when communicating online.
- Understand the importance of privacy and security.
- Recognise potential online dangers and know how to respond.
- Speak to a trusted adult if something online makes them feel worried, upset or unsafe.
We believe that educating children about online safety is a shared responsibility between home and school. By working together, we can help equip children with the skills they need to use technology confidently and safely, both now and in the future.
